Greetings from The Sister Project!
I am so excited to dive into this month’s edition of Ask The Sister Project — a space where we answer your thoughtful questions about life, business, and everything in between.
This month’s question comes from Lola Smith from Twin Lakes, MN:
“I have been following The Sister Project from inception and am in awe of your success. Can you please share the tips that have led to your growth?”
Lola, thank you so much for being here since day one — and for this beautiful question. When Lauren and I started The Sister Project nearly ten years ago, we were two women with a dream (and a lot to learn). We were hungry for information on how to stand out as bloggers and content creators in an already crowded space.
We were lucky enough to stumble upon two lifestyle bloggers, Jess Keys and Kelly Larkin, who gave us the best advice we’ve ever received:
“Be consistent.”
It sounds simple, but it’s the foundation of everything we’ve built. Consistency is the single biggest contributor to our success. If you want to succeed at anything — whether it’s building a brand, starting a business, or chasing a creative dream — you have to show up every single day, ready to learn, grow, and pivot when needed.
If you’re currently side hustling and wondering if it’s time to take the “side” out of your hustle and go full-time, ask yourself one thing first: Can I consistently show up, every single day? Because when the effort is part-time, the results will be too.
Invest in Yourself and Your Business
The second ingredient in our recipe for growth is investment — in both personal and professional development.
There is no evolution without investment.
As entrepreneurs, burnout is real, which is why we prioritize taking care of ourselves first. For us, personal investment looks like therapy, yoga, Peloton rides, nature walks, pelvic floor specialists, massage therapy, and daily doses of what we lovingly call mom hygge.
Some people chase work-life balance. Our business coach, Aviva Brill, calls it a “healthy wobble.” We love that — because perfect balance doesn’t exist, but finding a healthy rhythm absolutely does.
On the professional side, we’ve surrounded ourselves with the right people — business coaches, publicists, legal support, and brand strategists — many of whom are fellow women-owned small business owners. These investments have not only fueled our growth but also connected us to a supportive community of like-minded entrepreneurs. And trust us, that kind of ROI is priceless.
Manifest — But Don’t Forget to Do the Work
The third tool in our growth toolkit is one we hold close to our hearts: manifesting.
Here’s the truth — manifesting doesn’t work without work. It’s not just about dreaming; it’s about believing, acting, and aligning.
Write it. Say it. Think it. Believe it. Surround yourself with people who are just as excited about your dreams as you are. When you speak your goals aloud and take intentional steps toward them, the universe has a funny way of meeting you halfway.
Before The Sister Project began, I was in a dark place — stuck, resentful, and unfulfilled in my career. I was living in my shadow. But with years of relentless consistency, mindful investment, and a deep belief in our mission to inspire others to slow down, care less, and do a little more of nothing, I found my light again.
Creating this cozy, mindful, well-being community has been the most fulfilling work of my life — and it’s the reason The Sister Project continues to thrive today.
Thank you for reading and for being part of this incredible journey.
Stay consistent. Invest in yourself. Believe in your vision.
And above all — stay cozy.
With love,
Michelle
