Yoto - My little sister, Andrea, gifted this to Luna for her birthday and let me tell you, she is OBSESSED. She is currently hooked on listening to Frog and Toad on repeat. Which I am totally ok with. She sits on the couch with her stuffed racoon, “gets cozy”, and relaxes to story telling. I love that there is no screen or interaction like an iPad. It is strictly for listening, enjoyment, and learning. Best gift ever. Thank you, Zsa! Shop Yoto here.
Dragon Fly Lakes - This past Fourth of July, we spent it in Dahinda (near Galesburg) in a tiny lofted cabin. We were surrounded by nature, bird song, and lakes. The drive took us about three hours from the city and boy, was it worth it! The cabins at Dragon Fly Lake are so cozy, clean, and comfortable. I’d say, perfect for a family of four at the most. If you’re looking for a getaway and some time in nature, I highly recommend you look into this tranquil destination. Dogs are welcome!
Beach Day Crossword Puzzles by The New York Times - Inspired by our most recent episode (linked above) - crossword puzzles are hailed as one of the best brain exercises. Typically, I love doing them on my phone, but I try so hard to put that damn thing down and away. So, I opted for a good old fashioned book of puzzles. Here’s the link to the one I have and love.
The Only One Left, by Riley Sager - OMMMGGGG. This book on audio is scratching that cozy, mystery itch I love so much in a novel. The Only One Left is giving Lizzy Borden, Amityville Horror, Agatha Christie vibes. It’s a “did she or didn’t she do it” type of story that got me hooked from page one!
Stay Calm T-Shirt - The moment I saw this tee - I needed it. An accused witch burning at the stake lighting a cig (or quite possibly a joint) has my name written all over it. It arrived the other day and I can report that it’s wonderful quality and fits just right. I got it in a medium. Heads up - it takes about two weeks to arrive as it’s coming from the UK.
Tavel Rosé - This is hands down, my favorite rosé in all of the land. Now, it’s not your typical light blush rosé. It has a darker pigment to it which could explain the notes and flavors that burst from it. It’s a full mouth kind of vino - it explodes with flavor and delight. During peach season, I love to add slices of stone fruit for even more flavor and boozy bites. Grab a bottle at Binny’s and cheers!
Half Moon Yoga - Gentle reminder for local yogis and those looking to move and breathe mindfully. Every Friday at 9am I teach Zen Yoga (restorative/stretch) and every Saturday at 9am I lead Glow Yoga (power vinyasa) at Half Moon Yoga in the South Loop. The space is a sanctuary and all classes are all-levels. During these chaotic times, it is more important than ever to tune out the noise and tune into your mind, body, and breath. I meet you where ever you are on the mat - your first class is free. I’d love to see you. PS. I’ll be teaching mat pilates at Half Moon later this summer! I’ll keep you posted.
A Fever in the Heartland; The Ku Klux Klan’s Plot to Take Over America and the Woman Who Stopped Them by Timothy Egan. Welp, I finally found a book that I can’t out down. If you’ve ever wondered how the KKK started and got away with so many horrific acts, then this book is for you. You may even feel like history is repeating itself in a way...
My Mom, Jayne (MAX HBO). Growing up, all I knew about Jayne Mansfield was the car accident that took her life. Later on, I randomly found out that Law and Order’s, Marishka Hargitay was her daughter. OMG - this documentary blew me away! I cried at least 17 times. What a story, what a life. I HIGHLY recommend this documentary. Top ten.
stay cozy,
Lauren xo
