The War of Art
Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles by Steven Pressfield
My brother-in-law, Anthony, recommended this one, so when I spotted it in a stack at my friend Marcy’s house, I grabbed it and read it in one sitting at the beach. This book is a creative kick in the pants and a must-read for anyone with a dream, project, or purpose who keeps putting it off. My biggest takeaway: treat your craft like a job. Show up every day and do the work.
Canada Dry Fruit Splash
I didn’t even know this fruity riff on ginger ale existed. It was another delightful surprise while in Marco. My friend, Marcy, likes to mix it with cranberry juice and a handful of freeze-dried strawberries. It became my NA beverage of choice during my girlfriend getaway we lovingly call The Sip and Rips.
Why Him? Amazon Prime
This holiday comedy stars Bryan Cranston as an uptight dad meeting his daughter’s wildly inappropriate tech-billionaire boyfriend, played by James Franco. Chaos and cringe ensue as old-school values clash with modern excess. It’s loud, light, and perfect for when you want a mindless laugh and a little secondhand holiday stress.
Jenny’s Chimichurri Dense Bean Salad
Until my trip to Marco Island, I had no idea there was a “fiber-forward” movement trending online, but now it’s all over my feed and I’m fully on board. Here’s what you need to make it:
-
1 can white beans
-
1 can chickpeas
-
1 large bunch parsley
-
1 large bunch cilantro
-
1 shallot
-
Roasted red peppers
-
1 cucumber
-
1 avocado
-
Mini mozzarella balls
-
½ cup olive oil
-
¼ cup red wine vinegar
-
Juice of one lemon
-
Salt, pepper, and red chili flakes to taste
Toss everything in a bowl and enjoy with tortilla chips, over greens, or next to a sandwich. There’s truly no wrong way to eat this.
Notes on Being a Man
by Scott Galloway
In this thoughtful, often raw book, Galloway explores what it means to be a man in modern America by blending personal stories of family trauma, anger, and redemption with broader cultural insight. He advocates for a masculinity rooted in emotional intelligence, integrity, and connection. It’s both a reflection and a wake-up call for a generation facing loneliness, underachievement, and disconnection.
Philips Sonicare Rechargeable Travel Toothbrush
A few days away with friends and someone introduced me to this gem. Compact, powerful, and perfect for travel. My little sweeties have been extra good this year. Maybe Santa will slip one in their stockings.
Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Serum
Another discovery from my girls’ trip, and already on order. When I dabbed it on, it felt like my tired under-eyes were finally being quenched. It layers beautifully under makeup and gives that “I slept eight hours” illusion we’re all chasing.
Thrive Mascara
Stocking stuffer alert! Yet another hit from Marco. When your girlfriends unanimously say, “You need this,” you listen. This mascara lengthens, lifts, and refuses to smudge. It’s an all-around banger.
Stay cozy,
Lauren
