Frankenstein (streaming on Netflix)
Oh my goodness, I loved this film. Guillermo del Toro is one of my favorite directors (Pan’s Labyrinth had me hooked years ago), and he did not disappoint with his hauntingly beautiful adaptation of Frankenstein. The cinematography was stunning, the costumes and makeup were perfection, and the acting was, in my opinion, Oscar-worthy. It tugged hard at the heartstrings—I can’t wait to watch it again.
Trader Joe’s Candy Cane Chocolate Covered Almonds
O M G. Dare I say this might be my new favorite Trader Joe’s find of all time? As I was checking out, I spotted the very last bag and immediately thought—where did the others go? Now I know why. They’re that good. If you love peppermint, run (don’t walk) and grab a bag or two. You’ll thank me later.
The Correspondent by Virginia Evans
This book came highly recommended by two of my most well-read friends, and I completely understand why. It’s an epistolary novel - told entirely through letters and emails - between a woman named Sybil and the many people who weave in and out of her life: loved ones, acquaintances, and a few surprising strangers. Reading it feels like eavesdropping on someone’s private world. It’s witty, intimate, and deeply human. I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
Vintage Sequin Ornament Crafting
So many of you have asked about the supplies I use to make my old-fashioned sequin ornaments, so I’m linking everything below. Have fun creating—and please tag @thesisterproj so I can see your masterpieces!
Sequins: I went with rose gold (flat) and iridescent white (curved). There are so many dreamy colors to choose from—get creative!
Glass Beads: These pair perfectly with my sequin colors. Pick whatever makes your ornaments sparkle.
Sequin Pins: Go for ½-inch sequin pins—they’re the perfect size. I would order at least three packs. That should get you through three ornaments or so depending on the size of your foam ball.
Foam Balls: I like the 2.75-inch size—it’s just right.
Velvet Ribbon: I chose velvet in black and brown—stunning and classic. Use a hot-glue gun, pin, and bead to attach it to your ornament.
Stay cozy,
Lauren
