NEW EPISODE DROPS EVERY THURSDAY

Rebel Witch

I first became interested in witchcraft around the age of nine when I discovered the Wiccan/witchcraft/spellbook shelf at Walden Books in Western Springs back in the ‘90s. And the rest is history.

I’ve felt like a witch my whole life — leaning into the natural, the mystical, and the always intriguing side of life. As you can imagine, I’ve come across many witchy books in my day, but Rebel Witch by Kelly-Ann Maddox is one of the best ever. It’s a thoughtful, exploratory read with journal prompts that really help you dive deeper into your craft. Plus, the cover is pure perfection.

Follow Your Dreams, Freddy Shirt

I stumbled upon this t-shirt at Spirit Halloween, and something about it said, “you need this.” So, I got it — and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed wearing it all Halloween season.

Not only is it a conversation starter, but it’s also a reminder (albeit a weird one) to follow your dreams. But I’m a little weird, so it’s perfect for me. This one goes out to all the weirdo dreamers out there: don’t give up on your dreams. YOLO. Even Freddy Krueger thinks so.

(Also available at Target. I got a size small.)

I Like Me, John Candy

I have always loved John Candy. Uncle Buck and Home Alone’s Polka King of the Midwest (polka polka — iykyk) are two of my all-time favorite characters of his.

This film is sentimental, touching, and reminds me of my mom (she loved him too). It proves he was as good of a guy as everyone says he was. I highly recommend this documentary, produced by Colin Hanks. Streamable on Prime.

Graceland Cemetery

It’s that time of year when slow strolls through cemeteries have my name written all over them.

In Chicago, we have two sprawling resting places for the dead — both on the North Side: Rosehill and Graceland. Neither should be missed if you love exploring historic cemeteries.

Keep in mind that Graceland is also an arboretum, so the colors will be mind-blowing soon enough. I just went this week, and things are starting to slowly turn. Rosehill, meanwhile, has incredible wildlife — believe it or not — and if you’re lucky, you’ll spot a hawk or even a buck.

Enjoy a hauntingly beautiful walk.

Posh Apple Watch Strap

I wanted something a little less sporty for my Apple Watch and stumbled across this brand at Nordstrom the other day. For $40, it totally elevates the look — sleek, stylish, and surprisingly chic.

The BEST Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

Years ago, I combined two different pumpkin cookie recipes (Loesch, I think one was yours!) and ended up with one of the most delicious, fan-favorite cookie recipes ever.

They’re mild yet flavorful, soft, and perfect for this time of year through Thanksgiving. I guarantee you’ll bake more than two batches between now and then. I just baked them last week and I’m whipping up another batch this weekend!

Trust me when I tell you — you want this recipe in your collection of delicious things to eat.

Booties from Alcala’s Western Wear

As you know, I’m deep in my Horse Girl Era — and honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever stray from it.

I needed a proper pair of cowboy booties, so I went to the only place one should: Alcala’s in West Town on Chicago Ave. I found these beauties by (brand name) for my first official pair. They’re chic yet country, and Alcala’s will prep them for winter and clean them as the years go by.

I got a size 8 (true to size), and they’re on sale!

Silver Bullet (1985)

This year’s spooky season has been all about werewolves. I recently watched and loved The Wolfman, plan to rewatch the first 30 minutes of An American Werewolf in London, and last night I enjoyed Stephen King’s Silver Bullet.

Starring Corey Haim, Gary Busey, and Megan Follows (yes, Anne of Green Gables), I was reminded just how good — and creepy — this movie is.

Also, the priest and that one bald dad? Both total creeps. I hate them. lol.

Tune in for a good scare — the King of Horror always delivers.

Stay cozy,

Lauren
